Brown 3rd at New Zealand Half Ironman Championships - Happy New Year! Hope you had a great Christmas and 2013 will be a happy and successful year for you all.

Yesterday I finished 3rd at the Port of Tauranga Half Ironman which doubled as the New Zealand half Ironman Championships in a stella field. Things are finally starting to come together after a terrible December of training and racing and I'm happy where things are at as I start preparing for the New Zealand Ironman in 8 weeks time.

After a slow swim I found myself 2:30mins down on Graham O'Grady and 2mins down on Terenzo Bozzone and Callum Millward. I managed to hold that gap for the first 45km of the bike, but lost some more ground in the final 45km to be 4 mins down at T2. I was in 5th place off the bike but eventually caught Millward around the Mount base track and then moved into 3rd with 7km to go catching James Bowstead.

A pleasing result before I start my mileage phase, I race again in two weeks time in the Asia Pacific Half Ironman Championships in Auckland on January 20th which should be a fantastic race with athletes riding over the Auckland Harbour bridge (something that has only been done once before in a bike race).
