Post London Olympics I have been enjoying a whole range of things one can't usually do when they are training twice a day most days!
It was an amazing experience at the Games, the whole build up, being a part of an Olympic Team and being an Olympian. But for the past few months it was time for the biggest break I have ever taken, and it felt like it too when I went to get back on again!
I enjoyed hiking and eating good food and not thinking about training for 6 weeks post London. I spent 3 weeks back in NZ before coming over to the USA for some more time off. There were a few detours to some holiday destinations but I have been settled in Asheville, North Carolina for the past month. I began training here and apart from NZ, Asheville is my favorite place to be a cyclist. There is endless training and beautiful terrain to go and explore and get the endurance miles down. It is Autumn here so I have watched all the leaves turn from green to red to yellow and then fall. The long miles have seen me tour the area and I have climbed more in the last month than I have in the past year! You can ride up to 4000ft within 20km away from the city center.
I am back home for the summer soon and I look forward to being a part of the local road racing scene again. The club races every week will whip me into shape and I will be a bit nervous about that first one! Early 2013 I will be back on the boards again and I can't wait to get back on the Pista Team Evo II and join the girls again.
Rushlee.
